Authorities in Pennsylvania are investigating the theft of 100,000 organic eggs.
The shell-shocking theft took place on Saturday night when approximately $40,000 worth of eggs were stolen from a distribution trailer parked outside of Pete & Gerry’s Organics in Greencastle, according to ABC News.
Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene but have not provided details on potential leads nor how such a large heist went unnoticed.
Bird flu, also known as avian influenza, has been spreading across the United States, causing egg prices to rise and customers to scramble to buy what’s in stock, per a separate report from ABC News.
An increasing number of cases of bird flu have been found among animals including dairy cows, wild birds, poultry, and pet cats.
