A TikTok user shocked the internet by sharing her story of moving cross-country for her boyfriend, only to be unexpectedly dumped with a handwritten note stating they were incompatible.

In her now-viral video on TikTok, singer and content creator Spritely described how she uprooted her life to move from Los Angeles to Texas with her boyfriend, who claimed he wanted to be closer to his father. Believing in their future together, Spritely describes sacrificing much of her career, quitting her improv troupe, and using her savings to cover moving expenses.

After months of waiting for her belongings to arrive and settling into their new home, her boyfriend returned from a family vacation and handed her a note stating they were "incompatible" and had "nothing in common" after three and a half years of dating. Heartbroken, she left Texas and moved to Florida to live with her mom.

The video has garnered over 2.2 million views since being uploaded to TikTok last week. However, the attention surrounding the situation has brought an outpouring of support and criticism for the young woman.

As pointed out by one user on X, past uploads from Spritely provided some insight into the relationship. In one video, Spritely said that her boyfriend hated a song she wrote for him for their two-year anniversary and the attention it was bringing. In another video, she criticized her boyfriend for not sharing his groceries and “barely tolerating humans,” including her.

In a follow-up video, the singer responded to criticism from viewers who suggested that she blindly followed her boyfriend to Texas without considering some of the red flags.

“Y'all acting like I just showed up in Texas and said ‘Surprise,’” she said in the video linked above, reiterating that the move was a mutual decision. “People are saying I need professional help because I still love him. But you can't just turn your love off like a light switch. It'd be amazing if I could. Oh my God, I would love to. But it doesn't just go away when you want it to.”

Despite the pain, Spritely said she takes pride in her capacity to love her boyfriend unconditionally, which she believes he failed to appreciate. She clarified that her ex was, in fact, covering her moving costs.

In a separate video, Spritely reflected on her regrets about how the breakup unfolded, wishing that she had refused the note and insisted they talk through his doubts instead of allowing things to end so abruptly.

“I really wish I had done that both for me and for him, because we had so much love for each other and still do. But it's such a tragedy because I wanna look back fondly,” she said. “I'm the kind of person that I want to be friends with my exes. I love him so much. How am I supposed to look back fondly on this? He just ruined three-and-a-half good, beautiful years by doing this. Something that's just so insane that millions of people on the internet are coming to my aid.”

She continued, “He's a good man, he's a good person with morals, and it's just so out of character for him and it's just such a tragedy for us both. I just wish I had refused the note [and] said we're going to talk about this for a week. At the end of that week, maybe we’ll still break up, but it will be less traumatic and psychologically damaging than whatever the hell you're doing to me right now. And at the end of this week, if we break up, maybe there will be a chance that we can still have a respectful relationship at some point in the future.”

“But I was too shocked to do that. So, here we are in Florida living with mom,” she concluded.
