#BernieLostMe Explains Why Black Voters Didn't Back Bernie Sanders
Black voters on Twitter explain why they didn’t support Bernie Sanders with #BernieLostMe
Bernie Sanders continues forward on the campaign trail even though it looks like his opponent Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic presidential nominee. While Sanders has amassed a loyal following, he has notoriously failed to secure the support of many black voters.
As the Democratic National Convention edges closer, Twitter users of all backgrounds have been using the hashtag #BernieLostMe to share their reservations about voting for the Vermont senator. But it's black voters specifically who have used it to vocalize why he lost their support.
One of the main reasons had to do with the way his supporters tended to explain things to black voters. Bernie Bros in particular seemed to aggravate many voters, who felt they're being talked down to when things are "Berniesplained" to them.
Despite the fact that Sanders says he's concerned about issues affecting the black community, one voter didn't appreciate the way he failed to fully pay attention to them.
Other voters felt as though Sanders blamed certain regions or demographics for failing to get behind him instead of looking closer to home for an explanation.
Bernie supporter Tim Black, however, fired back by turning the hashtag on its head and pointing out the flaws in Sanders' opponent Hillary Clinton.
In fact, besides Black, many Sanders' supporters are using the hashtag #BernieLostMe to disparage other candidates and argue why Sanders is the best choice.
Sanders may have lost many black voters, but he still has a fan in Homer Simpson, who endorsed Sanders during The Simpsons live broadcast on May 15.
