10 Injured in Shooting Outside Queens, NY Nightclub
Police confirmed that six of those injured were women and four were men.
Ten people have been left with injuries following a shooting outside of the Amazura nightclub in Queens, New York City.
Three to four gunmen opened fire on a crowd of people outside of the nightclub on Wednesday as a private event was being held to celebrate the life of a 16-year-old who was killed in a shooting, NBC New York reported.
At the time of the shooting, 15 people were waiting to get inside the venue because it was at capacity with roughly 90 people inside. Four of those left with gunshot wounds were men, while six were women.
The gunmen who opened fire on the crowd are believed to be in their mid-to-late teens to early 20s, according to police. Approximately 30 shots were fired by the gunmen, who remain at large. The victims are expected to survive.
An investigation is ongoing, with the New York Police Department confirming it's looking into whether the shooting was gang-related.
"There's zero tolerance for these senseless shootings," said NYPD's chief of transportation, Philip Rivera. "These horrible acts of violence on our streets, and those responsible for this crime, will be apprehended and brought to justice."
Rivera added that a motive has not been determined, but he said it was not a terrorist act.
The shooting happened fewer than 24 hours after 10 people were killed when 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove his car through the crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year's Eve.
