The public does not know the name of the woman who survived being sexually assaulted by former Stanford student athlete Brock Turner, but her story of survival has spoken to many, including vice president Joe Biden. Following the very lenient six month sentencing Turner was given by judge Aaron Persky this week, Biden wrote a letter to tell the survivor that her fight will "save lives."

Biden provided the letter, titled "An Open Letter to a Courageous Young Woman" to Buzzfeed, and about how deeply he was moved by the survivor's statement in court, which was also published on Buzzfeed and went viral last week.

In his own letter to the survivor, the Vice President wrote that he is "filled with furious anger, both that this happened to you and that our culture is still so broken that you were ever put in the position of defending your own worth," and called the now 32-year-old woman "a warrior, with a solid steel spine."

Biden further wrote that solving rape culture is on "all of us," and that what the Stanford survivor "endured is never, never, never, NEVER a woman’s fault."

Biden has been vocal about the need to end rape culture and sexual assault against women, most recently at the 2016 Oscars where he stood on stage alongside Lady Gaga and several survivors of sexual assault and urged the crowd to speak up and intervene if they witness sexual assault.

Further, Biden has been active with the White House's campaign to end sexual assault on college campuses called, "It's On Us" He also penned the 1994 Violence Against Women Act.
