New York City authorities announced Sunday that the culprit behind a vicious subway attack is now in custody.

On Friday, a video of a man attacking an elderly woman on the subway surfaced on the internet. In the clip, the man is seen kicking the 78-year-old victim repeatedly before saying "WorldStar that" and exiting the Bronx-bound train. Many, including celebrities, called for the attacker's arrest as the post went viral.

The incident led the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to release a statement sharing their concerns about the attack.

"This is an extremely disturbing video. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our customers, and we strongly condemn this despicable attack," a spokesperson for MTA said. "The NYPD is actively investigating this incident and we will offer any and all assistance we can provide."

Now, just a day after the attack, the suspect 36-year-old Marc Gomez has been arrested by New York City Police and reportedly charged with "multiple counts of assault and harassment."
