Idaho Doc Responds to Bryan Kohberger’s Complaints: ‘We Are Aware About What He Considers Taunting’
The Idaho Department of Corrections has issued a statement about Bryan Kohberger’s complaints of being taunted while behind bars.
It’s only been a short time since Bryan Kohberger, who was convicted of brutally murdering four Idaho college students, officially began his prison sentence. Nevertheless, his time behind bars has already been pretty eventful.
It was recently revealed that Kohberger has complained to the staff at the maximum security prison where he is being held about taunts he has received from fellow prison inmates. The inmates have reportedly been doing everything they can to make his life behind bars a living hell.
Now, the Idaho Department of Corrections has issued a statement about these complaints. That statement was received and shared by Brian Entin, a senior correspondent for NewsNation. Entin has been closely following this case since the beginning.
"We are aware of Kohberger's complaints about what he considers taunting. Incarcerated individuals commonly communicate with each other in prison. Kohberger is housed alone in a cell in the Idaho Department of Corrections. Security staff maintain a safe and orderly environment for all individuals in our custody,” the statement reads.
Previous reports about the taunting Kohberger has been receiving behind bars came from homicide detective Chris McDonough. He explained to NewsNation that Kohberger’s fellow prison inmates were aware of his upcoming arrival and had planned to torture him however they could before he even got to the facility.
“They got together and said, ‘OK, well, you know, how do we harass this guy?” he continued. “And apparently, they set this up long before he got there … the guards were unaware of it until it started happening.”
The inmates are reportedly kicking doors and using the vent system of the prison to torment Kohberger, who has complained he has been unable to sleep.
While Kohberger remains in solitary confinement, he will eventually be released into the general population of the prison.
Kohberger will serve four consecutive life sentences for the murders of Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin.
