A dead body has been found outside a Pasadena Goodwill location, sparking authorities to launch an investigation.

According to KTLA, store employees discovered the unresponsive man Wednesday morning (July 9) in the 300 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. Some outlets reported the individual was found wrapped in a blanket inside a Goodwill donation bin; however, Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar clarified to Pasadena Now that the body was not in a closed receptacle, but rather an “open area” near the store’s front entrance.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, and began searching through other donated items for clues. Authorities said the "suspicious" death may have been an overdose, as drug paraphernalia was found near the body and there were no obvious signs of injuries. The official cause of death has yet to be determined.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the man as 31-year-old Shaves Adams, according to My News LA.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Pasadena PD at (626) 744-4241 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).

A day after Adams’ body was discovered, Pasadena police found a dead homeless woman behind a Walgreens store.

Authorities told Pasadena Now they believe the woman was in her 40s and potentially died from a drug overdose, but the incident is unrelated to the Adams case. The woman’s identity has not been released to the public, as officials have yet to notify her next of kin.
