Anne Burrell’s Death Under Investigation, Officials Confirm
The celebrity chef was discovered unresponsive at home, prompting an emergency response — and authorities say an autopsy is expected.
Fans of cooking shows will instantly recognize Anne Burrell — spiky blonde hair, bold voice, and a fierce presence in the kitchen. On Tuesday, June 17, the veteran Worst Cooks in America host died at her home in Brooklyn. She was 55.
Per TMZ, emergency crews responded to a call Tuesday morning after Burrell was discovered unresponsive. Paramedics were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her official cause of death has not yet been released, and an autopsy is underway, according to officials.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” her family said in a statement. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."
A spokesperson for Food Network added, “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
Shortly after the news broke, fans flooded social media with reactions, tributes, and memories.
“Anne Burrell dead at 55?? I can't believe it. I absolutely loved Worst Cooks in America. BTB, RTS. Brown food tastes good! Blanch, and shock! Slices, sticks, dices. She taught so many people,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Rest In Peace Anne Burrell. The cooking world has lost an amazing human being, a no nonsense sense coach and Brilliant Chef. You will be missed,” another shared.
“Anne burrell died as someone who was raised by food network I am not having a good time right now!” chimed in a third.
Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in New York on October 16, 2021, stepson Javier, her mother, Marlene, and her sister, Jane.
