Elon Musk Says ‘I Am Not Taking Drugs’ After Report Cites Frequent Use of Ketamine and Ecstasy
Elon Musk responded to an explosive 'New York Times' report about his alleged drug use.
Elon Musk has denied allegations made in a recent New York Times report that examined his alleged use of ketamine, ecstasy, and mushrooms during President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential run.
On Saturday, Musk pushed back against the report in a tweet where he flat-out stated the outlet was lying.
"Also, to be clear, I am NOT taking drugs! The New York Times was lying their ass off," Musk tweeted. "I tried *prescription* ketamine a few years ago and said so on X, so this not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven't taken it since then."
The report, published earlier in the day, cited over a dozen sources familiar with Musk, including associates, and claimed he used ketamine more extensively than previously known, as well as other substances like ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms. The Times said its investigation was based on interviews, private messages, legal records, and photographs.
Charlie Stadtlander, a spokesperson for the NYT, defended the article in an e-mail, stating, "We gave Mr. Musk multiple chances to respond. He declined. Instead, he tweeted, without offering any counter-evidence."
Musk's response comes after he stepped down from his advisory role in Trump's proposed Department of Government Efficiency program aimed at cutting government costs. However, he said he plans to continue advising Trump in other capacities.
When asked if he was aware about Musk's alleged drug use, Trump responded Friday night, "No I wasn't. I think Elon is a fantastic guy."
