Woman Recalls Husband's Death in Freak MRI Accident: 'His Whole Body Went Limp'
The woman said she and the technician tried to pull her husband out of the machine, but he went "limp" in her arms.
Keith McAllister's wife is speaking out after witnessing the horrifying moment he was sucked into an MRI machine and fatally injured.
In an interview with News 12 Long Island, Adrienne Jones-McAllister tearfully recounted how she saw the MRI machine pulling her husband into it thanks to the powerful magnet that reacted to a 20-pound chain he wore around his neck. According to Jones-McAllister, she saw the MRI "snatched" and "pull him" in.
"He went limp in my arms," said Jones-McAllister about her late husband. "And this is still pulsating in my brain."
According to the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD), the incident occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. on July 16 at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, and officers were initially told McAllister had suffered a "medical episode."
However, police confirmed days later that McAllister "succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased by a hospital physician." McAllister's wife also told News12 that he suffered multiple heart attacks after the incident before his death.
She claimed that she had gotten an MRI done on her knee and asked a technician to bring her husband in to help her up out of it. He was allowed to enter the room even though he was wearing the chain around his neck that he reportedly used for weight training.
"In that instant, the machine switched him around, pulled him in, and he hit the MRI," she recalled before adding that she and the technician tried to pull him out of the machine. "I was saying, 'Could you turn off the machine? Call 911. Do something. Turn this damn thing off!'"
She added, "I haven't been able to sleep, I'm barely eating, I just can't believe [it]. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. He waved goodbye to me, and his whole body went limp."
Interestingly enough, McAllister-Jones also claimed that she and her husband had previously visited the facility, where the same technician had seen the chain and allegedly commented on its size. MRI devices utilize strong magnetic fields to scan the body, and patients are instructed to remove any metal or electronic objects before entering the machine.
McAllister-Jones concluded her statement by saying that her husband worked hard and she "loved him so much." The NCPD is still investigating the incident as of press time.
