By this time next year, will you or someone you know be fucking a robot?

Believe it or not, such inquiries took up a lot of brain space back in, say, 2016, when British tabloid The Sun let loose a tweet that read, in part, 'Women will be having more sex with ROBOTS than men by 2025." The article itself, meanwhile, carried the same sentiment in headline form, with its underlying claims stemming from comments provided by Dr. Ian Pearson, a futurologist.

Pearson also made a broader prediction positing that mere human sex would be bested by that of the robot variety by 2050, due largely to what Pearson described as the gradual letting go of any "squeamishness" on the topic over time.

But why are we talking about this exact thing, at this exact moment, in this exact fashion? Why now, exactly? Well, given the increasingly timely nature of the original tweet's central claims, it seems a number of eagle-eyed jesters and/or aspirational robot fuckers have started going out of their way to get it recirculating on everyone's timeline.

"Six months to go," multiple recent tweets read, with many employing a certain Venom meme to drive the point home a bit harder. While some adopted a feigned tone of mournfulness about the purported cutoff, others took things in a far more celebratory direction.

See for yourself below.

As for more recent developments on the robots-potentially-doing-sex-stuff front, this piece seems like a good place to start.
