A TikTok user says that her mother mistaking nail glue for eyedrops has led to serious medical consequences.

The viral video, shared in late December, is captioned “POV: your mom thought her nail glue was her eyedrops,” and shows the North Carolina woman in what appeared to be a hospital bed. Her eyes are closed.

Naturally, comments on the video quickly piled up, with many inquiring about the woman’s condition.

According to TikTok user @realbyriri, who originally shared the video, doctors estimated that it could take as much as seven weeks for her eyes to open normally again.

In another update, the TikToker said her mom was “still in a lot of pain” after having a patch removed from one eye.

“I love my mom and it hurts to see her like this,” @realbyriri wrote in response to a comment praising her music selection across the glue-centered clips. “I am trying to keep her spirits high, even though her vision has been temporarily taken away from her.”

Amid the well wishes, a GoFundMe was launched for the woman, who was described as a “foster mom” who will be “out of work” until the issue is resolved. As of this writing, just under $1,000 had been raised against a goal of $3,500.

In response to a comment questioning the need for such a fundraiser, the organizer said that any money raised would be put toward “medical bills,” adding that the woman’s job “does not provide insurance.”
