R. Kelly has turned himself over to Chicago police after being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The charges involve four alleged victims with at least three being children older than 13 but younger than 17. The alleged assaults occurred between May 26, 1998 and Jan. 31, 2010. At a press conference held on Friday, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx said that aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a class 2 felony.

The 52-year-old singer is facing up to 70 years in prison.

The embattled singer was hit with the aforementioned charges earlier in the day.

While on SiriusXM's The Karen Hunter Show, attorney Michael Avenatti said that he has been working on the case and is representing some of R. Kelly's alleged victims.

"I'm not charging anything for the work that I've done because this is an outrageous case and it's an outrageous abuse of power, targeting some of the most vulnerable people in our society," Avenatti said. "Mainly young African American girls, many of whom are from the inner city. And I've been very moved by it because I have two daughters on my own, 14 and 16, and as a father and listening to some of these parents describe what has transpired and some of these victims, I was outraged by it."

Steven Greenberg, R. Kelly's attorney, said that his client is "shell-shocked" by the indictment. Greenberg added that R. Kelly is "extraordinarily disappointed and depressed" and maintains his innocence.

The singer was previously acquitted of child pornography charges back in 2008.
