Kehlani is thanking fans for the love they’ve given her latest single — and she’s giving some of that love back.

On Thursday, August 7, the “Folded” hitmaker revealed that she’s offering free laundry services to mothers across the country. This moment comes full circle to the singer, who’s paying it forward for those who have supported her over the years.

“growing up i knew how hard it was for all the single mamas in my family to get the tasks done on top of it all,” she wrote in a post on Instagram. “clean clothes is a basic necessity. i got yall.”

The song “Folded” details Kehlani peacefully parting ways with a past love. “Come pick up your clothes / I had them folded,” she sings on the song’s chorus. Though the song has been a slow burn on the Billboard charts, “Folded” has gone viral on TikTok, notably in videos in which users dance to the song’s post hook.

Kehlani’s laundry efforts come as part of a partnership with the nonprofit organization Current Initiatives and their ongoing Laundry Project, as well as Los Angeles-based creative director City James, whom she credits for the idea.

The laundry services will take place on Saturday, August 9 from 10 a.m. to noon local time. Among the participating laundromats are BubblyMat Laundry in Long Beach, California; Launderlux in Oakland, California; LaundroLab Laundromat in Charlotte, North Carolina, Neighborhood Laundromat in Chicago, Illinois; Spincycle Coin Laundry in Atlanta, Georgia; SuperSude Laundromat in Washington D.C., and LaundryBee – Jackson Heights in New York City. There will be no RSVPs taken for the services, and services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

“i love you mommy’s. you deserve the world,” Kehlani wrote.

Kehlani herself will not be present at any of the participating laundromats, noting that “This is a giveback, not a gathering.”
