Ariana Grande Celebrates First Oscar Nomination for ‘Wicked’ Role: ‘I Cannot Stop Crying'

The singer and actress earned a supporting actress nomination for role as Glinda in 'Wicked.'

Ariana Grande is officially an Oscar-nominated actress.

With Thursday morning’s Academy Award nominee announcements, the 31-year-old earned her first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role as Glinda in Wicked.

“picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition. i cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise,” Grande wrote on her Instagram account. “i’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. i’m so proud of you, tiny.”

“thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for this acknowledgement @theacademy,” she added.

She also thanked Wicked director Jon M. Chu “for taking this chance on me” and co-star Cynthia Erivo who played the role of Elphaba, writing, “i am so proud of my Elphie, my sister, my dear @cynthiaerivo. your brilliance is never ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden. i love you unconditionally, always.”

Wicked, which is an adaptation from the long-running hit Broadway musical, earned a total of 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Cynthia Erivo). The film’s creative nods include Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound, and Visual Effects.
