Cardi B Hit With Lawsuit Over Mic-Throwing Incident in Las Vegas
A woman says the rapper hit her with the microphone after encouraging fans to throw water at her from the crowd during a 2023 performance.
Cardi B is being sued for her infamous microphone-throwing incident during a Las Vegas performance in 2023.
In a new lawsuit, an anonymous woman is accusing the Am I the Drama rapper of assault and battery during her 2023 performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas, according to TMZ.
Jane Doe claims she threw her drink at Cardi after she insisted people throw water at her to beat the extreme heat, only for Cardi to retaliate by throwing a microphone at her.
The lawsuit includes claims of assault, battery, negligence, and other related allegations.
In August 2023, Cardi was cleared of any criminal charges after an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
At the time, it was reported that the complaint was filed not from the person Cardi allegedly targeted but from a second individual who was hit when the microphone ricocheted.
The following month, Cardi addressed the incident in an interview with the Breakfast Club.
"It was really, like, a quick reaction," Cardi said at the time. "And let me tell you motherfuckers, I didn’t wanna address it because I thought [I] was going to jail but I’m not."
The “Be Careful” rapper said the extreme heat on the day in question led her to invite fans to splash her with water, but with limits.
"It was hotter than a motherfucker," she explained. "There was a part of the show that I told people, you know, 'splash me.' But even when I told people 'splash me,' I was like, 'be careful with the face.'"
The mic toss, she said, came “four songs after” that moment when someone hurled water and ice directly at her face.
“This bitch threw water and ice on my face so I just automatically reacted,” Cardi recalled. “I didn’t even know that I was throwing it at that direction. I just threw the shit because it’s like, ‘bitch, you hit me right in my face.’ And when I look at the video it’s like, nah, you intended to throw that shit in my face.”
“I felt very violated,” she added.
