Cardi B Asks for Prayers After Deadly Dominican Nightclub Roof Collapse: ‘I’m in Literal Tears’

On Monday night, the roof collapsed of the popular nightclub Jet Set in Santo Domingo and claimed the lives of at least 58 people with others injured or reported missing.

Cardi B responded to the deadly nightclub roof collapse in the Dominican Republic.

“I'm in literal tears scrolling down my timeline seeing my Dominican people being rescued some wit lives and some gone,” the rapper, who is of Dominican and Trinidadian descent, wrote to her BG Secret Society community via Instagram on Tuesday afternoon.

“l'm sad seeing families crying desperately in pain looking for love ones ..I feel like every Dominican around the world is in a big hora Santa praying for survivors and praying for the ones that are gone to be in Gods Glory,” she added. “For the people who lost a family or a friend don't have bad memories they left this earth singing and dancing and most likely happy and enjoying themselves and that's how the lord will receive them.”

She continued, “Its so heartbreaking to see one of our iconic artist [Rubby] Perez leave in such a tragic way.Im glad tho our final memory of him was him sharing his beautiful voice to us ..Sang one last time .I want my fans to pray for those who was in that building last night ❤️💙”

At least 58 people were reported dead with 1 after the roof collapsed on Monday night at the popular Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, according to the New York Times

Officials said rescuers made at least 155 trips to local hospitals, sometimes carrying two to three people in an ambulance at a time.

The nightclub, a former movie theater, was over 50 years old and had experienced a fire several years ago. 

Per the Times, rescue efforts are ongoing with many families reporting relatives missing. Dominican authorities are said to be focused on rescuing survivors, with some still trapped under the rubble and pleading for help.

Among the deceased are former MLB player Octavio Dotel who spent his longest tenure pitching with the Houston Astros from 2000 to 2004.

Renowned merengue singer, Rubby Pérez, known for hits like “Tu Vas a Volar” and “Volveré,” was performing at the time of the collapse and confirmed dead on Tuesday by Dominican TV outlet Noticias SIN.
