Jennifer Lopez Officially Files for Divorce From Ben Affleck on 2 Year Anniversary of Georgia Ceremony
After two years of marriage and countless rumors of their split, Lopez officially filed for divorce on Tuesday.
Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck.
The singer filed the documents on Tuesday with the Los Angeles County Superior Court and without the assistance of an attorney, Complex has confirmed. TMZ was the first to report the news. Lopez, 55, did not specify in her filing if there was a prenuptial agreement in place with Affleck, 52, but sources told the outlet that no such prenup exists.
As explained by TMZ, any earnings or profits Ben and Jen made during their 2 years of marriage is considered “community property.” The California Judicial Branch also says that any debts a couple may have acquired, such as mortgages and car notes, also counts towards community property.
Some of Affleck's credits during their marriage included Air, Hypnotic, and The Accountant 2. On the other hand, Lopez starred in Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, and Atlas.
Last month, Lopez and Affleck publicly listed the Beverly Hills mansion they purchased together last May for $68 million. They originally purchased the home for roughly $61 million and reportedly have had trouble finding a buyer.
Affleck recently closed escrow on a $20.5 million mansion in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of L.A. Meanwhile, Lopez is reportedly looking for her own home as well.
Lopez’s filing date might have been intentional considering it's the second anniversary of a wedding ceremony they held in Georgia. However, the couple tied the knot in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022. In the documents, J.Lo listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024.
TMZ notes that the two have been trying to reach a settlement “for months” but discussions are ongoing and occasionally have been heated. Jennifer is also waiving spousal support and asking the judge to deny her soon-to-be-ex-husband such support as well.
The former couple infamously rekindled their romance in 2021 after being one of Hollywood’s hottest “it” couples in the early 2000s.
This is Lopez's fourth marriage and Affleck's second.
