Rosalía Says She Felt ‘Freedom’ in Sexuality After Dating Hunter Schafer
The Spanish singer recalled her five-month relationship and their reunion of the set of "Euphoria."
Rosalía is looking back on her relationship with Euphoria star Hunter Schafer years after they dated.
In a new interview with Elle published on Thursday (Aug. 14), the Spanish singer confirmed to Suzy Exposito that the two remain friends despite their past relationship.
Schafer confirmed she and Rosalía were an item for five months in 2019 while speaking to GQ for a 2024 story. At the time, the Euphoria star called Rosalía “family, no matter what.”
When Exposito asked if the romance pressured the “Despechá” singer to publicly define her sexuality, Rosalía replied, “No, I do not pressure myself. I think of freedom. That’s what guides me.”
The exes have since reunited on the set for Euphoria’s upcoming third season, where Rosalía says she has enjoyed seeing Schafer and spending time with costars Zendaya and Alexa Demie, saying, “I have good friends there. It feels really nice to be able to find each other.”
It's far from Rosalía’s first time working with former romantic partners: Spanish rapper C. Tangana co-wrote songs on her sophomore album El Mal Querer in 2018, and in 2023, she released RR, a joint EP with then-fiancé Rauw Alejandro. She and the Puerto Rican superstar called it quits later that year.
“I feel grateful to each person with whom life has made me find myself,” she said of her exes.
Rosalía says since the release of her career-defining 2022 album Motomami, she’s gone mostly offline and confirmed she has parted ways with longtime collaborator El Guincho, with whom she’s worked since El Mal Querer.
“We haven’t seen each other [in] years,” Rosalía told Elle. “I honestly love working with people longterm. But sometimes people grow apart. He’s on a journey now, he’s done his [own] projects all these years. And yes, sometimes that can happen where people, you know, they grow to do whatever their journey is. Right now, I’m working by myself.”
In an "Ask Me Anything" video interview for Elle, Rosalía teased that her upcoming new album “doesn’t sound like my previous album at all.” She also named who she would like to collaborate with in the future, following previous collaborations with The Weeknd, Lisa from Blackpink, and Bad Bunny.
"I love Kendrick Lamar," she said. "I would say Charli [XCX]. Of course, Charli. She's a good friend and I would love to make music with her soon. And Patti Smith, I love Patti Smith."
