Did Kendrick Lamar Respond to Jay Electronica on His 'untitled unmastered.' Project?
It sounds like Kendrick is protecting his crown.
Last month, Jay Electronica sent shots Kendrick Lamar's way in the second verse of "#TBE The Curse of Mayweather" when he mentioned the Compton rapper's 11 Grammy nominations. This was after he went on Periscope and called K. Dot his "baby." Now it sounds like Kendrick has responded, if not vaguely, to Elect's lack of musical production over the years on "untitled 07 | 2014 - 2016," a track produced by Swizz Beatz and his five-year-old son Egypt on untitled unmastered. He sends the subliminals around the 3:18 marker, spitting:
His lyrics are very Jigga like, with Kendrick seemingly pointing out that Electronica is in no space to come at him when he's yet to release a full-length project. Kendrick is defending his place in the pantheon of rap. He just came off winning five Grammys for one of the most important hip-hop albums to ever drop, and now he's doing a victory lap with throwaway tracks that are better than most albums. Elect seems to have a lot of time on his hands. Hopefully this will get him amped enough to finally release Act II, though we won't hold our breath.
Punch of TDE also chimed in on the lyrics:
