Britney Spears Biopic Based on Her Bestselling Memoir Is in the Works
'Wicked' Director Jon M. Chu is attached to the adaption of Spear's memoir 'Woman in Me.'
Universal is planning to adapt Britney Spears' 2023 memoir The Woman in Me into a feature-length movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the movie studio has acquired the rights to Spears' best-selling book, which detailed her upbringing in the spotlight and her years-long conservatorship. Wicked and Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu is attached to direct the movie, while Wicked and La La Land producer Marc Platt will produce the project.
"Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies," wrote Britney Spears in a post shared on social media. "Stay tuned."
Spear's 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, was a huge success when it debuted. it has since sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States, while the audiobook, read by actress Michelle Williams, was among the fastest-selling audiobooks in the history of publisher Simon & Schuster. It also topped Spotify's audiobook charts for 2023.

The book featured some big revelations from the retired pop star, including the infamous time she shaved her head in 2007.
"I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body since I was a teenager,” she wrote in the book. "Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back."
Other topics explored include her much-publicized relationship with Justin Timberlake, whom she said encouraged her to get an abortion. “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy,” Spears wrote of the pregnancy. Other romantic flings were touched upon in the book, such as her brief romance with Colin Farrell.
