Cash Cobain Says Criticism of His J. Cole Collaboration Doesn't Bother Him: 'He Was Just Having Fun'

Cash Cobain isn't bothered by the criticism he and J. Cole faced for their collaboration "Grippy."

In a brief interview with TMZ, the "Fisherrr" rapper was asked about the onslaught of hate Cole received when the song dropped, which arrived around the same time he unceremoniously walked away from the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef.

"People are crazy," he said with a laugh. "He was just having fun, you know what I'm saying? ... It's all about fun ... Doing something different, that's all."

He agreed that people should let up on Cole, especially when it comes to having fun on a record that's not supposed to be taken as seriously as the rest of his output.

This isn't the first time Cash has addressed the reaction to "Grippy," which inspired memes and left many Cole fans puzzled by the absurd and graphic nature of his lyrics.

"You think that n***a really care about a verse that y'all talkin' about?" Cobain told Elliott Wilson earlier this year. "He probably dealing with some other shit right now, but he probably got some fire shit coming for y'all. ... If you were to listen to 'Dunk Contest,' you would really know it's a 'Dunk Contest' remix. What you wanted him to bar you up all day? Come on, bro."

Cash has quickly made a name for himself with his blend of drill and R&B, which he dubbed "sexy drill." He's already worked with top names like Ice Spice, Big Sean, and Don Toliver. And he dropped his latest album, Play Cash Cobain, in August, building on his steady momentum.
