Eminem Stalker Convicted After Multiple Home Break-Ins
Matthew David Hughes might have taken the 'Stan' label a little too literally.
Eminem can now rest a little easier after Matthew David Hughes, a stalker who twice broke into the rapper's Clinton Township home, has been convicted by a jury.
As reported by the Detroit Free Press, the 32-year-old was found guilty in court on Wednesday (May 7) on first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking charges. In August last year, he was arrested after trespassing on Eminem's property, making it the second time he broke into the rapper's Michigan home.
In 2020, he broke into Eminem's house and woke him up. In a court testimony that could draw comparisons to the seminal Marshall Mathers LP track "Stan," a detective on the case said Em told him that Hughes said he broke into his house to kill him.
Eminem testified during the court appearance on Wednesday. The jury deliberated for half an hour and returned guilty verdicts for both charges. Hughes has remained behind bars at Macomb County Jail since his arrest on August 30, 2024. He was ordered to have no contact with the rapper and did not post the $500,000 bond set by a judge in December that same year.
Following the first incident, Hughes agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced to five years of probation. He was later arrested again when he violated probation and was charged with simple assault. He was released from prison on parole on May 15, 2024. Before he broke into Eminem's house the first time, he was arrested when he was discovered to be sleeping in a guest house that Eminem used to own.
In more celebratory news, Eminem recently became a grandfather, after his daughter, Hailie Jade Scott, and her husband, Evan McClintock, welcomed their first child in March, a baby boy named Elliot Marshall McClintock.
She took to Instagram to announce the news, writing, “Happy due date//3 weeks earthside little e,” alongside photos of her son, revealing that he was born on March 14 and shares a name with Em.
Hailie’s baby’s middle name is Marshall, after Eminem’s real first name.
