Metro Boomin Brings Back Classic Atlanta Sound With 'A Futuristic Summa' Mixtape
The producer's new project is chock-full of Atlanta all-stars, including Travis Porter, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Young Dro, Young Thug, 2 Chainz and 21 Savage.
Metro Boomin has put out a star-studded new mixtape that brings back the classic Atlanta rap sound — listen to A Futuristic Summa below.
Presented by DJ Spinz, the new tape sees Metro uniting Atlanta hip-hop legends of various eras with a throwback sound that's distinctively different from the production he's made his name with.
The beats frequently feature skittering hi-hats, ringtone-inspired midi loops, and countless playful samples. It's exactly the type of Atlanta sound that put the city on the map over two decades ago.
The guest list, which is uncredited on streaming platforms, is particularly impressive, even by Metro's standards. Many of his frequent collaborators show up on the project, representing the current wave of Atlanta superstars. Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Lil Baby and Quavo all show up on the tape, but so do some of the rappers that helped define Atlanta hip-hop.
Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Young Dro, Yung LA, Roscoe Dash, 2 Chainz, T.I., J Money, Skooly, Shad Da God and Travis Porter also appear across the tape's 24 songs, with some of them making multiple appearances.
In keeping with the throwback Atlanta sound, Metro shared an old webcam picture of himself on Instagram to celebrate the project's release.
In the lead-up to its release, he teased some of the features on the project with a series of posts inspired by the classic "Who's that Pokémon" challenge.
A Futuristic Summer is the first project from Metro since he dropped his pair of collaborative albums with Future, We Don't Trust You and We Still Don't Trust You, last year.
Both albums had a massive impact on the culture, helping launch the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef into overdrive with "Like That," and fracturing the hierarchy of hip-hop. Metro hasn't worked with Drake since, and it remains unclear if they'll ever step into the studio together again.
ComplexCon returns to Las Vegas on October 25–26, 2025, with over 300 brands and live performances by Young Thug, YEAT & Friends, Peso Pluma, Central Cee, Ken Carson, and more. Get your tickets now.
