PnB Rock's Alleged Shooter Found 'Not Yet Competent' to Stand Trial
The young man accused of killing PnB Rock was just 17 years old when the incident took place in 2022.
PnB Rock's alleged shooter has been deemed unfit to stand trial.
Rolling Stone reports a Los Angeles judge on Friday ruled that the young man accused of killing PnB during a 2022 robbery at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ’N Waffles still lacks the "necessary competency" to participate in legal proceedings.
“The recommendation is that the previous orders remain,” Commissioner Bradford said. “The proceedings remain suspended, remediation continues.”
The news arrives after Los Angeles County jurors heard opening statements in PnB Rock's trial.
The unnamed teen, who appeared in court on Friday, was 17 years old at the time of the shooting. He is alleged by police to have walked into the restaurant after being dropped off, at which point he’s said to have shot Rock in the chest before shooting him in the back once he fell to the floor.
The boy's father, Freddie Trone, and stepmother, Shauntel Trone, were also charged with accessory after the fact in connection with Rock’s murder. Freddie Trone has pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony. Shauntel avoided trial by accepting a plea deal. Another man, Tremont Jones, pleaded not guilty to robbery, conspiracy, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
A follow-up hearing has been scheduled for next month.
