Many people took sides in Drake’s beef with Kendrick Lamar.

But one person who kept a low profile through it all was 21 Savage. Drizzy gave 21 a shout-out on the $ome $exy $ongs 4 U album cut, “Gimme a Hug,” in which Drake equates himself to The Matrix’s Neo as he dodges bullets.

“Savage, you the only n***a checkin’ on me when we really in some shit, brother,” Drake says.

Drake's last joint project was his and 21 Savage’s 2022 16-track album, Her Loss, though that’s far from their first collaboration. They initially started working together almost 10 years ago, dropping the single “Sneakin’” in 2016. Later in 2020, they both appeared on 21 and Metro Boomin’s Savage Mode II song, “Mr. Right Now," “Knife Talk” from Drake’s Certified Lover Boy in 2021, and “Jimmy Cooks” from his 2022 project Honestly, Nevermind. 21 also appeared on Drake’s 2023 For All the Dogs song, "Calling for You."

The song that started the 6 God’s beef with K.Dot was “Like That,” which appeared on Metro and Future’s We Don’t Trust You album last year. Their decision to include the diss meant people had to choose their fighter, with many backing Metro, Future, and Lamar.

At that point, it was expected for 21—who’s a close collaborator of both Metro and Drake—to pick one side. But he chose to remain impartial. Last May, Savage addressed Metro and Drake’s issues during an Instagram Live session, explaining that he believed they would be friends again.

"Don't keep coming on to my muthafucking Live talking about no muthafucking beef," Savage said. "Metro my brother and Drake my brother. Those n***as going to figure that shit out eventually."
