Funkmaster Flex shared his two cents following the announcement that Kendrick Lamar is playing the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans next February.

Funk Flex brought Jay-Z into the equation. “We gotta stop blaming Jay-Z for everything,” the Hot 97 host tweeted. “The NFL has never cared about people of color. (Before Jay-Z) (Before [Colin Kaepernick])." he added, a nod to the scrutiny the league faced when Kaepernick started taking a knee during the National Anthem as a means of protest.

Funk Flex continued, “The NFL accomplished turning us against each other! This wouldn’t of happened in Taylor Swift’s hometown! Lil Wayne legacy already written in stone!”

On Sunday, Kung Fu Kenny revealed in a teaser video that he’ll perform at the next Super Bowl Halftime Show on Feb. 9. 2025. There was some outrage regarding this announcement; fans and celebrities both lamented that Lil Wayne wouldn’t be headlining the Halftime Show in his native New Orleans.

Dot’s news prompted Master P to request that Weezy perform alongside the “Not Like Us” rapper.

“As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans, I have to agree with the fans that @liltunechi #LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well,” Master P wrote on Instagram. “He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant, and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here.”
