Karol G Reflects on 'Nightmare' Relationship in New Doc 'Mañana Fue Muy Bonito'
While she didn't directly name her ex, some fans believe she was referring to Anuel AA.
Karol G’s new Netflix documentary, Karol G: Mañana Fue Muy Bonito (Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful) is here. According to Remezcla, the singer previewed the film in her Medellin, Colombia hometown—and a fan recorded a scene where Karol opens up about a former partner who was “toxic” and left her feeling like she was in a “nightmare.”
Per the outlet, some fans believe that the 34-year-old was referencing her ex-fiancé, Anuel AA, though it appears she didn’t directly name him.
“My past relationship was very toxic, getting out of there, I would wake up and I felt like a person that had no value,” she says in Spanish, per the outlet. “I couldn’t see success. I couldn’t see greatness. I did feel like it was something that I wasn’t going to be able to get out of.”
“When what you’re doing is suffering from something and you don’t want to leave, so you don’t suffer and it was a fucking nightmare, it was hell,” she adds. “The only thing that came out of it all was that through my songs. I had the opportunity to speak for many people who sometimes don’t know how to express what they feel.”
Karol also gave a surprise performance of her Mañana Será Bonito (Tomorrow Will be Beautiful) album cut, “Amargura”.
Karol and Anuel initially met in 2018 on the set for the music video “Culpables.” They confirmed their relationship in January 2019 and were engaged by April. They revealed in April 2021 that they had broken up, a month after Karol released her third album, KG0516.
She released her next album, Mañana Será Bonito in 2023, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, US Top Latin Albums, and US Latin Rhythm Albums.
Karol G: Mañana Fue Muy Bonito is now streaming on Netflix.
