Lil Wayne no longer wants to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

In a new cover story with Rolling Stone, Wayne said that the NFL lured him with the opportunity and encouraged him to attend celebrity events, only for them to blame Jay-Z and Roc Nation when Wayne wasn’t chosen for the show.

“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” Weezy explained.

“If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing shit with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”

Wayne said that following Kendrick Lamar’s announcement, someone at the NFL apologized to him and said, “We ain’t in charge” of who gets chosen for the show.

He also said that he didn’t watch Lamar’s performance, instead opting to play pool with Lil Twist and smoke. “Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he said.

Wayne spent a lot of time vying for the halftime show slot, but now he’s moved on. “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”

Many felt like he was snubbed for the Super Bowl gig, largely because the game happened in his New Orleans hometown. Though he openly expressed his disappointment in not being chosen—saying in an Instagram video that being passed over “hurt a whole lot”—he was still a good sport about it. He later revealed he spoke to Dot and “wished him all the best and told him he better kill it.”

Regardless, Tunechi has new music on the way. In February, he announced that his highly anticipated Tha Carter VI album will finally arrive on June 6.
