Mase proved he still got it.

The podcast co-host kicked off Season 2 of It Is What It Is with a freestyle. For two minutes, the Harlem World rapper served up some bars over Common and Kanye West’s 2005 hit song, “The Corner.”

“Got no big homies, we know who runs who / Hottest n***a ever from the 212,” he raps. “N***as don’t really know me, they just know that I’m movin’ / And I handle my business like the Soviet Union.”

Mase retired from the rap game years ago, after taking a five-year break from music from 1999 to 2004. During that time, he became an ordained minister. In a March episode of It Is What It Is, he reflected on his decision to leave music.

"When you're put on the earth, there's somewhere you supposed to be," he told Cam’ron. "But you could pick any place. That's just like me, right? I took my life, I was doing music, and I said, 'You know what? I'm not going to do music. I'm going to go over here.' ... All you get to do in life is pick your choice, but the consequence you don't get to pick."

When asked if he made the right decision, he said, "I did.” He continued, "Everything now that we see playing out was all the things I escaped. The car, the shine, the Loon, Puff Daddy... The Craig Mack, the Biggie Smalls. So even though I made those decisions and it cost me money, that's why I got with Killer [Cam] and they gave me the money back. I didn't lose no money. Destiny."
