Philadelphia rapper LGP Qua was fatally shot over the weekend in his hometown.

Action News reports that a representative for Qua, born Qidere Johnson, confirmed his death. He was shot in the chest just before 4:40 p.m. on Sunday; he was subsequently taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police haven’t yet arrested anyone.

Qua appeared to be 30 years old, per a 2019 report from CBS News, which revealed his age to be 24 at the time.

According to CBS, Qua began rapping after an 18-month stint in prison, purportedly on a weapons charge. When he was incarcerated, he also met his father for the first time. After Qua’s release, he wrote a viral song in November 2017 in support of Meek Mill, who was imprisoned on a parole violation. The song led to a collaboration with will.i.am. in 2018 called “Insomniac.”

"I said I'm feeling like Rakim, thinking of a master plan because all I see is death in the streets that I'm stepping in," LGP Qua chillingly told the outlet at the time.

Rather than rap about money and material items, his lyrics encouraged the youth. His 2019 song “Dear Qua” features letters written to him by Philadelphia teens.

"Everybody in my city, they got their own craft with their art music and I'm all the way left," Qua told CBS. "Nobody was talking how I was talking, like I just came onto the scene like who's this young boy talking, speaking what he's speaking."

RIP.
