Trae the Truth is opening up about reuniting with his daughter after she was abducted.

“It was excitement, nerves. Your brain moving 1,000 miles per hour because you’re wondering how is this first interaction going to be,” the Houston rapper told The Breakfast Club at around the 6-minute mark in the video above.

"Is it going to be, ‘Man, I missed you, pops’? Is it going to be, ‘I’ve been away from you for a minute. I’m cautious’?” he said. “It was a lot.”

US Marshals called Trae on New Year’s Day to tell him his 6-year-old daughter was found near the border of Mexico. That day, Trae and his son flew to San Diego, where his friend drove them to the border.

“I’m nervous the whole time,” Trae said. “So finally, when I first seen her, if y’all seen the video, she was a little hesitant. At this point, I don’t know what’s going through her head. But at the end of the day, she do know I’m Pops and she knows I’m always going to protect her.

He added: “So she come to me, I could tell she was with mixed emotions, but when I tell her turn around and she seeing her brother, it was like all was forgotten. She was like, ‘Yeah, I’m back with my guys.’ And from that moment to as we sit here now, we’ve been nonstop together.”

Trae’s daughter disappeared in August while staying with her mother, Heather Cuevas, for the weekend—who, according to NewsNation, didn't have sole custody. The FBI, Marshals, the Black and Missing Foundation, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were searching for the missing 6-year-old. A felony warrant was issued for the arrest of Cuevas.

Trae and Cuevas’ custody dispute lasted for six years. The father of two was given primary custody in early 2024, and Cuevas was granted weekend visitation rights and summer visits.
