ASAP Rocky Says He'll Raise His Sons the Same Way He Grew Up in Harlem: 'They're Still Human'
ASAP Rocky discussed his parenting styles in comparison to his partner, singer and entrepreneur Rihanna, in a chat with 'Billboard.'
Just like ASAP Rocky grew up going to corner stores in Harlem, he expects his sons RZA, 2, and Riot Rose, 1, to have similar humility throughout their childhood.
The rapper, who covers the latest Billboard issue, had a conversation with Billboard's deputy editorial director Damien Scott, and around the six-minute mark of the video below, Rocky discussed his Harlem upbringing.
“Being in Harlem, it allows you the freedom of walking to the store, walking to the park, clearing your mind, going to the swings, being more present and active,” he said. “If you live in the suburbs somewhere, you’re more inclined to just go to work, go to the mall…driving and shit. Here, you’re more present, more in the thick of it.”
When Scott assumed that Rocky’s children wouldn’t be able to experience the same childhood, he responded, “Yes, they do.”
“Man, let me show you little RZA last night, bro. Look…this my little man right here,” he continued while pulling out his phone.
“ASAP Rocky and Rihanna's kids aren't going to walk to a corner store in the middle of the night,” Scott said, to which Rocky added, “Why the fuck not?”
“Because they are the children of ASAP Rocky and Rihanna,” Scott added.
“But they’re still human,” the “HIGHJACK” artist explained while showing Scott a video of RZA. “They human beings, man. Look, this is him last night. He was walking to the corner store.”
On the differing parenting styles between him and Rihanna, he said that there isn’t much of a difference, but that “she’s fun and shit” and likes to “play too fucking much.” “She’s silly as shit,” he said. “She likes to prank and shit like that.”
While Rocky hinted towards his sons turning into "mama's boys," RZA and Riot have been close to their father, as seen in recent campaigns for Bottega Veneta and Savage X Fenty.
