Doechii Calls Speculation She Lip-Synced Grammy Performance ‘Stupid as Hell’
On TikTok, the rapper denied lip-syncing during her high-energy Grammys performance.
Doechii has addressed innocuous claims about her performance during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards earlier this month.
In a TikTok posted on Saturday (Feb. 15), the Grammy winner responded to a comment alleging that her medley of Alligator Bites Never Heal songs, "Catfish" and "Denial Is a River," played with her "pre-recorded voice."
"I can't possibly get on here and say this calmly or nicely," Doechii began. "Y'all are stupid as hell. So slow! Ahhhhh! That is my DJ's [DJ Miss Milan] voice picking up on the lines that I can't say because I'm doing A SOMERSAULT."
The Tampa native continued, "That entire performance was live!" She continued before giving insight into her health. "I was sick as a dog with bronchitis and the flu, performing my ass off in a straddle on top of human men."
Doechii added that the beads on the ends of her cornrows were "slapping the mic" in the beginning, which was audible to the crowd and viewers at home.
"[I] worked my ass off to build the stamina for that, for y'all to play in my face," the Top Dawg Entertainment act concluded. "I don't lip-sync. Don't ever fucking play with me like that. Ever!"
After winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album, Doechii spoke to reporters in the press room, sharing that she had conquered one of the "most difficult performances" she'd ever done.
"I really felt a need to push myself harder than I ever had to before," she said. "It meant everything to me, too. [I] proved myself tonight — to me —and so it was about rapping, theater and art, and I think I brought that to the stage."
Doechii's had time to brush up on her onstage stamina, as her 12-date Alligator Bites Never Heal Tour was last year.
