Prisoners Gave Diddy Standing Ovation After Verdict, Lawyer Claims
Inmates in the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn reportedly lended Diddy their support.
Diddy’s lawyer claims his client received an outpouring of support from fellow inmates following his verdict last week.
Last Wednesday (July 2), the music tycoon was cleared on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering in his weeks-long case, although he was found guilty on two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. Among those celebrating the acquittal were Diddy's family members, select industry peers, and reportedly, those who've been alongside him in the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn. Diddy, who's been in jail since his arrest last September, has repeatedly been denied bail.
According to Diddy's lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, the Bad Boy Entertainment founder received a standing ovation from individuals in the detention center upon his return.
"They all said: ‘We never get to see anyone who beats the government,'" Agnifilo told The Associated Press. "I said: 'Maybe it's your fate in life to be the guy who wins.' They need to see that someone can win. I think he took that to heart."
While Judge Subramanian has proposed a sentencing date of October 3, a remote hearing has been scheduled for July 8. For each count of transportation to engage in prostitution, Diddy faces a maximum penalty of ten years, meaning he can be sentenced up to twenty years.
Being applauded is probably one of the most tame reactions Diddy received after his verdict, as a group outside the courthouse inappropriately drenched each other in baby oil.
