Mariah the Scientist didn't see herself dating a man with children — until she went official with Young Thug.

The "Burning Blue" singer-songwriter was a guest on Hot 97 on Monday (August 11) and spoke to radio host Nessa Diab about her relationship with the "Money on Money" rapper. The couple began dating in 2021 after Young Thug was featured on her Ry Ry World track "Walked In." Mariah publicly supported her boyfriend throughout the YSL racketeering trial.

Around the 29-minute mark of the video below, the vocalist admitted that originally, she "never wanted to date a man with kids," calling it a "dealbreaker" for her.

"And then I meet this guy, and I feel like he's great and he doesn't have one kid, he has six kids," Mariah told Diab about Thugger.

"In the beginning it was harder. Definitely was rougher, because they're kids," she continued. "You don't want to try to be too present; it's someone else's child."

Mariah added that amid her flourishing relationship with Young Thug, her relationship with his children has also "grown." Over the the summer, Mariah attended the fifth grade graduation of Young Thug's son Jamir alongside the rapper, some of his other children, and Jamir's mother, Kameme.

"I feel like we have great relationships," Mariah said about the children. "I feel like we talk on the phone all day long. They be calling me before they call him and I'm like, 'Call your daddy.'"

"But I love them though. I feel like they're super fun, very playful. They teach me a lot of things," she continued. "I miss them. I want to hang out with them right now. I wonder what they're doing. But yeah, they're great."

Mariah's connection with Thug and his children was previously commended by Kameme, who publicly thanked the singer last year for arranging phone calls between the rapper and his kids while he was in jail.

Earlier in the conversation, Mariah clarified that she was "working" but "took too long" when Young Thug arranged their first date, which nearly made him uninterested. During a June episode of GQ's Couples Quiz, the rapper claimed that his now-girlfriend stood him up.
