Will Smith Announces Comeback Album, His First in 20 Years
Smith's next album, 'Based on a True Story,' releases on March 28, with features from Big Sean, Teyana Taylor and more.
Will Smith will soon release his first album in 20 years.
On Friday (March 14), the Oscar winner announced his upcoming fifth album, Based on a True Story, which arrives March 28. In addition to including singles "You Can Make It" featuring Fridayy and Sunday Service, "Beautiful Scars" featuring Big Sean and OBanga, and "Work of Art" featuring Russ and Jaden, the 14-track album will also have Teyana Taylor, Joyner Lucas, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more as guests.
Smith, who was originally a member of duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, released his fourth album, Lost and Found in 2005. Outside of his current album rollout, the actor-rapper also collaborated with Spanish singer India Martinez on track, "First Love."
Last month, Smith appeared on a livestream with xQc and shared around the 54-minute mark of the video below that he'd be releasing album installments in "seasons" with each song being called "episodes."
"I'm calling it seasons," Smith said. "So, I'm releasing it like a TV show. I'm releasing season one at the end of March, and then I'm going to release season two at the end of July."
He continued, "Season one is called Rave in the Wasteland. ... The first stuff that I wrote, you know, I kind of disappeared and went inside."
Smith also shared that his "big dream" was for the project to "move through media," with the album also being launched as a TV show and movie.
