50 Cent Claims Jay Z's Roc Nation Wanted Him Blocked From Super Bowl Halftime Show: 'Eminem Wouldn’t Do It Without Me'

The G-Unit boss also took a swipe Beyoncé's Grammy wins: "I don’t know who’s voting in that sh*t."

50 Cent says he was narrowly cut from the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The hip-hop mogul made the claim in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, more than two years after he performed the Emmy-winning set alongside musical heavyweights, like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and his longtime friend/mentor Eminem. 50 told the outlet that Jay Z’s Roc Nation imprint, which helps produce the annual halftime show, didn’t want him involved but ultimately obliged after Em threatened to quit.

“Roc Nation. Yeah, they didn’t want me there,” he said. “Eminem wouldn’t do it without me. That’s how I ended up on the show because he was not coming if I didn’t do it. When that happens, you go, ‘Damn, so you just lost Eminem because you didn’t bring 50? Damn. All right. Bring 50 then.’ But if it was up to them, they would not have me there. I’m the surprise. I’m not on the bill at all. But they couldn’t get Em to do it without me.”

Although 50 never directly blamed Hov, it’s worth noting that he and the Roc Nation boss have had a complicated history. It’s unclear what exactly ignited the beef, but the two have been exchanging shots as far back as 1999, when Fif took aim at Jay in his “How to Rob” track.

“What, Jigga just sold, like four milli?” 50 rapped. “He got something to live for/ Don’t want a [expletive] putting four through that Bentley Coupe door.”

Jay responded with “It’s Hot (Some Like It Hot),” in which he declared: “Go against Jigga yo ass is dense/ I’m about a dollar- what the f*ck is 50 cents?”

Elsewhere in the Hollywood Reporter interview, 50 threw shade at the Recording Academy, saying it had zero relevancy or “value.”

“I don’t care about them,” he said about the awards show. “They don’t mean anything. It’s an acknowledgment of the success of the project, and the excitement is to be in the room with your peers. Other than that, what is the acknowledgment? It doesn’t mean anything.”

He continued: “I haven’t even seen anyone in a bad financial space where they would sell their Grammys. Then it would mean something that you received this award. It has zero value.”

Fif, who has 14 Grammy nods and one win under his belt, said he didn’t participate in the Recording Academy’s voting process and suggested that Jay’s wife, Beyoncé, didn’t deserve all her Grammy wins.

“I don’t know who’s voting in that shit. It’s crazy,” he said. “Whoever they are, they’re off at Beyoncé’s house because she has 30 of them.”
