Garth Brooks Lawsuit: Country Singer Sued by Former Makeup Artist for Sexual Assault and Battery
The plaintiff claims Brooks raped her in a Los Angeles hotel in 2019 and has since taken legal steps "to silence" her.
Garth Brooks has been hit with a sexual assault and battery lawsuit.
According to legal documents obtained by CNN, the country music star is being sued for allegedly raping a woman who previously worked as his makeup artist/hairstylist. In a case filed in Mississippi, called John Doe v. Jane Roe, a man described as "a celebrity and public figure living in Tennessee" stated that a woman from Mississippi had made "false and outrageous allegations of sexual misconduct' that she claims occurred years ago."
The woman claims she first began styling Brooks’ wife, singer Trisha Yearwood, in 1999 and then began working for Brooks in 2017.
The complaint, filed Thursday in California state court, alleges Brooks subjected the woman to sexual assault and misconduct, including exposing his genitals and buttocks to her, disclosing his sexual fantasies, changing in and out of clothes while she was present, and sending her sexually explicit text messages.
Jane Doe also alleges Brooks raped her in 2019 during a work trip to California. The plaintiff claimed she and the singer took a private jet to Los Angeles with no other passengers, which was quite different than their previous flights.
“Usually there were others on Brooks’ private jet but this time, Ms. Roe and Brooks were the only two passengers,” the complaint read. “Once in Los Angeles at the hotel, Ms. Roe could not believe that Brooks had booked a hotel suite with one bedroom and she did not have a separate room.”
During their hotel stay, Brooks allegedly walked out of the shower fully naked and sexually assaulted Jane Doe. According to the suit, the plaintiff “could not escape his physical domination” as he was much bigger than she was. She allegedly experienced neck and back pain as a result of the assault.
“With cold disregard for Ms. Roe, when Brooks was finished, it was business as usual,” the complaint continued. “Ms. Roe worked quickly to style his hair and do his make-up for the event so he was on time.”
Jane Doe’s legal team has also accused Brooks of trying to “silence” their client. According to the lawsuit, Brooks learned about Jane Doe’s plan to file a lawsuit, so he filed a preemptive complaint under the name “John Doe.” The suit, first reported by CNN, accused Jane Doe of being “a lying extortionist who intended on destroying [Brooks’] professional reputation.”

Brooks claimed he found out about the allegations after his lawyers received a “confidential” demand letter alleging sexual misconduct. The letter was purportedly sent after Brooks denied Jane Doe’s request for “salaried employment and medical benefits.”
“[Jane Roe’s] allegations are not true,” Brooks’ September complaint read. “[Jane Roe] is well aware, however, of the substantial, irreparable damage such false allegations would do to Plaintiff’s well-earned reputation as a decent and caring person, along with the unavoidable damage to his family and the irreparable damage to his career and livelihood that would result if she made good on her threat to ‘publicly file’ her fabricated lawsuit. Indeed, such knowledge no doubt explains why [Jane Roe] threatened to file suit through a ‘confidential’ demand letter rather than simply filing suit to redress her alleged (but untrue) injuries.”
