Big Sean has revealed that Kanye West thought he was picking Drake over him when he recorded the 2015 hit single "Blessings," in which both were featured artists.

In his latest sitdown conversation with Complex, Sean Don reflected on the song featured on his third studio album, Dark Sky Paradise, and how Ye felt the Detroit rapper was choosing sides on the song. According to Sean, he and Drake already finished the song, but Ye wanted to get on it after hearing what his G.O.O.D. Music artist and Drake cooked up.

"I remember Ye thinking that I picked Drake over him for some reason when we made the song 'Blessings.' And I'm like, 'What are you talking about, bro?'" recalled Sean. "Ye heard it, and Ye had been a real instrumental part of my third album, Dark Sky Paradise. He had, like, he was featured on there, like, three times or something like that."

He continued, "'Blessings' was the last song that got added at the very last second. And he heard it and he was like, 'I got to be on the song.' And I was like 'Aw, shit bro like, it's like, too fucking late. It's like I'm turning --- my preorder comes out in like a day.' It was different than how it is now but at the same time, I helped him get the verse done. I wrote the verse with him. Right? So it's like, 'All right. You put me on, bro. So I'm gonna listen to whatever the fuck you say. Like, if you want to be on it, let's figure it out and we'll figure out the logistics later.'"

Sean added that he spoke to Ye's engineer and told him to deliver the verse in time to have it mastered to ensure the Chicago rapper would be on the song. On the following day, Sean reached out to the engineer only to find out the song wasn't ready, and had Sean take the lead to get it done.

"I'm like, 'Did y'all send the fucking verse, man? I'm trying to turn my shit in right now like, I'm not an A&R I shouldn't even be dealing with this shit I told you guys to send it...'," said Sean. "But I'm such a like, pushover at that time of my life. And I just was like trying to do everything, you know? I'm doing this. I'm calling the master plan. It was just like, I had no business even doing all that."

"Blessings" was eventually released in January 2015 and was featured on Sean's third album. It peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is four times platinum while also being nominated twice at the 2015 Soul Train Music Awards for Best Collaboration and Hip-Hop Song of the Year.
