Chinx's Family Wants Murder Suspect to ‘Spend His Life in Jail’ After Pleading Guilty for Lesser Sentence
Chinx was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in May 2015.
The family of the late Chinx is looking to take even more action after one of the suspects in the rapper's murder just took a plea deal.
On Monday, the Queens County District Attorney's Office announced that Quincy Homere has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter, and his sentencing will be held next month. Shortly after the announcement, a post was shared from the rapper's Instagram page that revealed the rapper's family is working diligently to get Homere the maximum sentence.
"After 9 years, one of the individuals responsible for the Murder of Lionel 'Chinx' Pickens pled Guilty to a reduced charge of Manslaughter," read the post. "His sentencing will be held at 9am on August 12th, 2024 at Queens criminal court. While this plea is out of our control, and of no consolation to the family, loved ones, and countless fans of Chinx, It brings certainty to many unanswered questions."
The post continued, "Please stand with the family as they seek the maximum time allowable from the judge for the senseless loss of their loved one. #justiceforchinx #Legendsneverdie #Gonetoosoon."
Chinx's wife, Janelli Caceres-Pickens, also shared her thoughts on Homere's plea deal and expressed how even though the family didn't get what they wanted, they'll still be in court to see Homere be handed down his sentence.
"We fought hard for a harder charge which should be murder 2 cause in the state of NY, murder 1 is only given in the cases of government officials being murdered," she wrote. "He wouldn't take the murder 2 which would of ended in a lengthy trial that we were obviously ready for!! We are not happy with this charge but one can not dodge whatever GOD has planned for him! Manslaughter has me livid n heartbroken.
She added, "He deserves to spend his life in jail … but we will be there August 12 to hear him get sentenced … CHINX WILL FOREVER LIVE ON THRU IS ALL!! Thank you to all that has continued to support us thru this journey!"
In 2018, the other suspect in the killing, Jamar Hill, was reportedly in talks to secure a plea deal. Hill and Homere are accused of fatally shooting Chinx after he performed in a Brooklyn nightclub back in May 2015.
Both men were arrested in 2017 while serving time for unrelated cases and were charged with a five-count indictment, including attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. While Hill's case is still ongoing, Homere is facing 23 years in prison with five years of post-release supervision.
