Fat Joe Receives Key to the City of New York From Mayor Eric Adams
The rapper stated earlier this month that there were people who were upset with him receiving the key.
Fat Joe achieved one of New York City's highest honors when Mayor Eric Adams presented him with a Key to the City during one of his concerts.
On Tuesday, Joey Crack had a performance to celebrate his 54th birthday in his hometown, The Bronx, which was attended by many fans who packed the venue in Orchard Beach. Other musical acts for the event hosted by Rise Up NYC included Funk Flex, Doug E. Fresh, Chubb Rock, and more.
Mayor Adams stopped by to present Joe with the key, acknowledging the rapper's work in the community and his music and entertainment achievements.
"His music has unlocked our hearts for so many years... Fat Joe is a real legend, and we're just really thrilled about giving him the key to the city," Adams said in a statement to News 12 The Bronx.
Joe had previously spoken about receiving the key during an Instagram Live session earlier this month. According to the Terror Squad boss, people were upset that he would be receiving a key.
"The mayor and his crew, his right-hand girl, got me the key to the city. Everybody was a little upset," said Joe. "But I don't know another guy who keeps it realer with the streets of New York than Fat Joe, who feeds more people, opens more businesses. I don't know what to tell you guys."
Despite the alleged backlash to receiving the key, Joe has been having a great week celebrating his birthday. Just days before he was presented with the key, Joe got a special Rolex watch from DJ Khaled during a birthday dinner.
"Yo, this shit is amazing," Joe told Khaled. "This shit crazy! Look at it...nah this shit different!"
