Diddy has requested a little more time before beginning his upcoming federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial. On Wednesday (April 16), the disgraced mogul's legal team sent a letter to the case's judge, Arun Subramanian, requesting a two-month adjournment before jury selection in the case, which is currently scheduled to begin on May 5.

In court documents reviewed by Complex, attorneys for the Bad Boy founder argued that the delay was needed for several reasons. First, they said that the newest version of charges against their client, which was issued earlier this month, is significantly different than previous indictments. The government, for its part, claimed in a hearing on Monday that the new indictment was "encompassed by a previous charging instrument."

In addition, Diddy's lawyers claimed that there is an issue with how the government is handling potential evidence related to one of the alleged victims in the case. They said they should be entitled to a "vast amount of communications" from the unnamed alleged victim, even if the government does not have possession of all of the evidence itself.

The government fired back in a letter to Judge Subramanian, saying, "There is no law to support his request that the Government obtain and produce such documents not in its possession. Indeed, the request borders on frivolous."

Judge Subramanian responded to Diddy's request for a two-month adjournment by saying that, for now, "the parties should proceed on the current schedule." But he noted that his decision was only temporary, and depended on the results of a pre-trial conference taking place this coming Friday, April 18.

This comes after reports earlier this week that Young Thug's lawyer, Brian Steel, is joining Diddy's defense team. According to Meghann Cuniff, Steel filed a motion on Tuesday requesting to appear as counsel for Diddy.

The 55-year-old music mogul pleaded not guilty to racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
