A clip from a 2011 Jimmy Kimmel Live episode featuring Diddy and Justin Bieber has resurfaced amid ongoing coverage of the former’s arrest on trafficking and racketeering charges.

The clip in question, as seen on TikTok and elsewhere, stems from a Kimmel episode that first aired in Feb. 2011. At the time of the episode, Bieber would have been 16. That same year, Bieber released his Never Say Never: The Remixes and Under the Mistletoe albums, not to mention a blockbuster concert film. Diddy, meanwhile, was fresh off the releasee of the lone Dirty Money album Last Train to Paris at the time of the Kimmel chat.

After some jokes about Diddy and Bieber’s relationship being akin to that of Rob and Big Black of Rob & Big, Diddy likened Bieber to “a little brother” to himself and others in the industry.

“To a lot of us, he’s like a little brother,” Diddy said in the 2011 interview. “He’s not afraid to call and ask for advice. He’s somebody that, in the industry wise, the record industry is a strong family and he’s somebody that we definitely have our arms around him. We wanna protect him. Because he’s such genuinely a nice person. Besides his talent, he’s one of the greatest kids that you could ever know.”

Kimmel then brought up the possibility of Diddy buying Bieber a car, prompting the Bad Boy Records founder, who has pleaded not guilty in his trafficking and racketeering case, to claim that Bieber “had the Lamborghini for a day or two” prior to the interview.

“He had the Lamborghini for a day or two and he had access to the house,” Diddy said at the time. “He knows better than to be talking about the things that he does with big brother Puff on national television. Some things, everything ain’t for everybody.”

Bieber and Diddy's professional relationship goes back a bit further, as a 2009 upload to Bieber’s YouTube saw him thanking the “best fans in the world” for helping him get Diddy’s attention with regards to a song he made for him.

Diddy was arrested in New York in September and is accused in a since-unsealed indictment of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for purposes of prostitution. According to attorney Marc Agnifilo, Diddy is “an innocent man.”
