Diddy's Legal Team Again Requests Mistrial in Federal Trafficking and Racketeering Case
Diddy has denied the allegations against him in the case.
Diddy’s legal team has again opted to go the attempted mistrial route in the Bad Boy Records founder’s federal sex trafficking and racketeering case.
This time around, Diddy’s legal team is publicly taking issue with alleged “prosecutorial misconduct.” At the time, per real-time court reporting from Shawn Setaro for Complex, Diddy’s legal team was objecting to the presentation of communication centered on how LAPD responded to fingerprints allegedly linked to a Kid Cudi break-in. As previously reported, Cudi recently took the stand in Diddy’s case, notably alleging that his Porsche was targeted in a firebombing incident.
Wednesday, an arson investigator took the stand, ultimately resulting in Diddy’s legal (unsuccessfully) pushing for a mistrial. Per Setaro, Diddy’s legal team, Alexandra Shapiro to be specific, at one point told the court, “We are going to mov for a mistrial based on the prosecutorial misconduct that went into this.” At the time, Diddy’s legal team was fresh from objecting to the alleged assertion that their client had had potential evidence destroyed.
"My point is that it's becoming clearer this inference is what the government is doing this for... There's no way to unring this bell,” Shapiro said at one point on Wednesday.
Wednesday, at least at the time of the aforementioned comments, the focus in the Diddy case was on comments provided by a Los Angeles arson investigator. More specifically, the investigator in question had initially been enlisted in connection with the alleged targeting of Cudi’s car.
This isn't the first instance of Diddy's legal team pushing for a mistrial. Last week, Diddy’s legal team—namely, lawyer Brian Steel—pushed for a mistrial while Cudi was on the stand.
