GloRilla Hit With Felony Drug Charges After Cops Respond to Burglary at Her House
Glo turned herself in earlier this week and was bonded out the same day.
GloRilla is out on bond after being arrested in Georgia on possession charges. Per police, the charges stem from a search conducted in connection with a burglary targeting a home owned by the Glorious artist.
As first reported by TMZ Thursday morning, Glo was booked on Tuesday, with records cited by the outlet showing she was accused of possession of a scheduled controlled substance and possession of marijuana over one ounce. That same day, she was released on bond.
When reached for comment by Complex on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the possession charges. In an email, the rep said that Glo, born Gloria Woods, had “voluntarily turned herself in” on the charges on July 22. Later that day, she was released on $22,260 bond.
The statement shared with Complex said that deputies first responded to “a report of a burglary in progress” on July 20 at a residence owned by Glo, who was not home at the time.
“It was reported that three suspects had entered the home and were in the process of stealing items when an armed occupant fired at the intruders,” a Forsyth County rep said Thursday. “The suspects fled the scene, and it does not appear that any of them were struck. No injuries were reported among the home’s occupants. Despite an extensive search involving uniform patrol, K-9 teams, and the FCSO Drone Unit, the suspects were not located.”
Ultimately, with a department rep attributing the move to “the nature of the incident,” an investigation was launched on the scene, with deputies saying they “detected a strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics.” Drug Task Force agents were notified, with a search warrant executed on the residence.
“A significant amount of marijuana was discovered in plain view inside the master bedroom closet,” the department rep said. “The homeowner, Ms. Gloria Woods, who was not present during the burglary, was subsequently charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of schedule one controlled substance.”
As for the search for the alleged burglary suspects, that remains in progress. In a statement shared Thursday, Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman addressed both the investigation into the burglary and the ensuing charges against Glo, the victim in the case.
“The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” Freeman said. “At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
Complex has also reached out to reps for Glo for comment. Last April, the three-time Grammy nominee was reported to have been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, also in Georgia.
In a statement later provided to TMZ, Glo’s legal reps, Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling of the Findling Law Firm, pointed out that their client was “a victim, not a suspect” in the case. Her arrest, they said, serves as “a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become.” The reps also said that those who were at the residence at the type of the allege burglary were members of Glo’s family.
“When her family members did the right thing and called law enforcement, instead of investigating the violent home invasion and theft at Ms. Woods’ home, they instead sought a search warrant when they spotted what they believed was a small amount of marijuana,” the reps added.
Earlier this month, GloRilla made a special guest appearance on the Travis Scott-led JACKBOYS 2 project, complete with a shoutout to Matthew McConaughey, who was once famously arrested after police in Texas said they found him dancing in the nude and playing bongo drums while high.
Next up for Glo is the 1st Annual Glo Bash in her hometown of Memphis. Sexyy Red and Rob49, among others, are also on the lineup for the FedExForum event.
