Jack Harlow, who co-starred alongside Sinqua Walls in the ill-received White Men Can’t Jump remake last May, is planning to "get better" as an actor.

That’s the self-assessment the 26-year-old Jackman artist gave in a recent interview with Variety's Michael Appler. Speaking on the reception to the aforementioned White Men Can’t Jump, which is now sitting at a 40 on Metactitic and a paltry 26 on Rotten Tomatoes, Harlow acknowledged that "shit got killed." For comparison's sake, the original film, directed by Ron Shelton, is still standing tall with a 65 on Metacritic and a 75 on Rotten Tomatoes.

The disappointing remake experience, however, was not without its pivotal lessons.

"I learned I’ve got a lot more work to do," Harlow said. "I’ve got to get better if I really want to do it. It’s tough. It’s harder than I thought."

The occasion for Harlow’s Variety chat, of course, is the just-released The Instigators, led by Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. Harlow’s casting in the Doug Liman-helmed Apple TV+ production was first announced last April, with the extended lineup also boasting Hong Chau and Paul Walter Hauser. Following a limited theatrical run, the film, co-written by Affleck and Chuck Maclean, will be available to stream starting next Friday.

As for music, Harlow is mere months removed from launching his Gazebo Festival in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The inaugural lineup featured SZA, Vince Staples, James Blake, and more. Harlow closed out his 2023 with "Lovin on Me" and "Stop Giving Me Advice," the latter of which was part of the debut Lyrical Lemonade collection All Is Yellow.
