Megan Thee Stallion's Lawyers Call Out Tory Lanez's Allegedly 'Disruptive' Deposition
In January, Megan was granted a five-year restraining order.
Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has successfully asked the court to impose sanctions on Tory Lanez after he allegedly caused a would-be deposition to be cut short due to being “disruptive” and “inflammatory” during the proceedings. In recently filed docs, Megan’s team, in short, had argued that Lanez should be held in contempt for his alleged behavior.
Wednesday, SoCal-based independent reporter Meghann Cuniff was among those to report on the initial docs, which come in connection with a defamation case centered on a social media personality Megan’s lawyers say was acting “at the behest and command of” Lanez. According to the docs, efforts to depose Lanez were ultimately shown to be “a waste of time.” While on the record, Lanez is accused of, among other things, having “feigned ignorance” over the meanings of simple words.
“[Lanez] refused to treat his deposition with any seriousness,” Megan’s legal team argues in the docs. “In the 44 minutes on the record, [Lanez] feigned ignorance regarding the definition of basic words, such as ‘discuss’ and ‘approve,’ harassed [Megan’s] counsel about her appearance; interrupted questioning to discuss his answers with his and [defendant Milagro Cooper’s] counsel; and pretended that the video equipment was not working despite prison staff confirming it was functioning properly.”
By Thursday, the judge had agreed with the argument made by Megan's legal team.
In January, Megan was granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez. That order, per prior reports at the time, was spurred by Lanez’s alleged harassment while behind bars. In 2022, Lanez was convicted in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case and later sentenced to a decade in prison.
Speaking with Complex last October, Alex Spiro, an attorney for Megan, pointed to “nonsense bloggers” as being at the core of what he described as a larger “misinformation” campaign led by Lanez.
“Misinformation can be everywhere but anybody reasonable and conscientious sees this nonsense for what it is,” Spiro told Complex at the time. “Given the fact that they insist on continuing, we’re going to take legal action.”
Complex has reached out to Megan’s legal team for additional comment on the latest filing. This story may be updated.
