Skepta Calls Joyner Lucas 'Brave' for Rap Battle Challenge: 'How Long You Been Waiting?'
Is a full-fledged U.K. versus U.S. battle taking shape?
Skepta says he’s going to give Joyner Lucas “two bars” in an upcoming ASAP Rocky diss track.
The tease from the “Cops & Robbers” artist, who recently linked with Fred again.. and Plaqueboymax for “Victory Lap,” comes amid talk of a U.K. versus U.S. rap battle.
Below, we take a closer look.
What did Joyner Lucas say about Skepta?
In a recent X update, Lucas marked this as “the moment I’ve been waiting for” when tagging Skepta.
“Say the word,” he wrote in response to Skepta arguing “the U.K. can’t lose” in a hypothetical U.K. versus U.S. battle.
Later, Lucas, whose ADHD sequel arrives later this month, shared an excerpt from a 2024 DJ Vlad interview with Aries Spears. In it, the Mad TV alum says he “can’t stand listening to n***as from London rap,” followed by a mocking impression.
Lucas also joked on Instagram about wanting “whatever drugs he’s on” in response to a video from Skepta further detailed below.
What did Skepta say about Joyner Lucas?
In a video shared to Instagram, Skepta first told fans he “wasn’t even going to reply,” arguing that he’s “a rapper’s rapper.” From there, he pointed to Lucas’ remarks, arguing they’re “just another example of the ignorance.” Next, Skepta said, is a full-fledged diss track.
“When I drop my diss track for Rocky, I’m gonna give you two bars,” Skepta said, adding that he “didn’t do the work I did for Joyner Lucas to be saying my name.”
On X, Skepta playfully referred to Lucas as “a brave man” for wanting to take him on in the booth. Aries Spears also got a mention, albeit erroneously referred to as “Aaron” in a pair of X updates.
“How long you been waiting for this moment though?” Skepta asked.
How does ASAP Rocky factor into all of this?
To be clear, despite Rocky apparently having a diss from Skepta on the way, the latter has since clarified that there is no actual “beef” between the two. Instead, this is merely friendly competition.
“Rap is a sport,” Skepta, whose past collaborations with Rocky include the Testing hit “Praise the Lord (Da Shine).”
